Why do your prices say ‘from’?
The starting price covers what’s listed on each card. Five things move it up: the length, how settled your message is, how much has to happen on screen, whether your brand assets and product screens already exist, and how many versions you need. We give you the exact number in writing before anything starts.
How much does animation or motion graphics cost per minute?
We price each video, not each minute. An explainer video of 60 to 90 seconds starts at NZ$8,000 excluding GST, with the script, original design and animation, voiceover and music. A promo video of 30 to 45 seconds starts at NZ$4,000, and a logo animation of 6 to 8 seconds starts at NZ$1,900. Longer videos are quoted from the script, as one fixed number, before anything starts.
How much does an explainer video cost in New Zealand?
At MoveUp Studio an explainer video of 60 to 90 seconds starts at NZ$8,000 excluding GST (September 2026 prices). That covers message, script, original design, animation, voiceover and music. Most clients add cutdowns with their own hooks and calls to action, so the same film runs a whole campaign across their channels. Many New Zealand studios don’t publish a figure, so it’s worth asking any of them for one early.
Prices across the New Zealand market vary a lot, and the gap usually comes down to scope. A template assembly and an original film built around a message you worked out together are two different products that share a name. Ask what’s included, how many revision rounds you get, and who is animating it.

How much does a 2-minute video cost?
An explainer video of 60 to 90 seconds starts at NZ$8,000 excluding GST, with voiceover and music, and a 2-minute video costs more. It needs more script, design and animation, so we quote it from the script.
Most of the explainer videos we quote land in that range, which is where the argument usually finishes. If your film needs two minutes because there are two things to explain, we still quote it as one fixed number before anything starts.
How much does a 3-minute video cost?
A 3-minute video is quoted from the script, starting above the NZ$8,000 price of an explainer of 60 to 90 seconds. Three minutes is long for an explainer and we’ll push back, because a viewer who leaves at ninety seconds never sees the last third you paid for. If something outside the film sets the length, like a conference slot or a training requirement, we build it for that.
How much does a logo animation cost in New Zealand?
A logo animation of 6 to 8 seconds, which we call a motion identity, starts at NZ$1,900 excluding GST (September 2026 prices). It sets how your logo and brand behave in motion, and you reuse it across your channels.
It’s the quickest way to start working with us, and it’s a one-off build, so there’s nothing to renew.

How much does video production cost in Auckland?
At MoveUp Studio, a New Zealand motion design studio, an explainer video of 60 to 90 seconds starts at NZ$8,000 excluding GST (September 2026 prices) and a promo video of 30 to 45 seconds starts at NZ$4,000. A monthly content subscription starts at NZ$3,500 a month, plus a one-off set-up. Logo animation of 6 to 8 seconds, which we call a motion identity, starts at NZ$1,900. You’re buying animation and video, and the thinking behind them. Filming is scoped separately.
Many studios won’t give a figure before a call. When you compare quotes, ask each studio the same questions: what exactly is included, how many revision rounds you get, and what happens if the scope changes. Those answers separate quotes better than the headline figure.
Is it cheaper to hire a motion graphics designer or use a studio?
A full-time motion designer in Auckland costs a salary plus tools, recruitment and the months before they’re productive, and you manage them. Cadence starts at NZ$3,500 a month, plus a one-off set-up, for a set amount of finished content with no minimum term.
A good in-house designer beats us on responsiveness and on knowing your product. Once you have enough work to keep one busy every week, hire one. Below that, you’re paying a salary for capacity you aren’t using, and a subscription covers the gap. We’ll tell you when you’ve outgrown it.

What happens on the 30 minute call?
You tell us what you’re trying to explain and who needs to understand it. We tell you which product fits and roughly what it would cost. If it’s a fit, we send a written proposal with the scope, dates and a fixed price.
Do you use AI?
Yes, behind the scenes, the same way we use any production tool. The message, script and creative direction come from our team, and you approve every stage before we move on.
How long does it take to make an animated video?
It depends on the scope and how fast feedback comes back, so we put real dates in your proposal instead of an average on a web page. Storyboard sign-off is the milestone the rest of the schedule hangs on.
Can we use the finished video anywhere?
Yes. Once the final invoice is paid, the finished video is yours to use on any channel, and we license the music for you. We keep the project files, so later changes start from the originals.
Do you work with Australian companies?
Yes. We work with companies in New Zealand and Australia on the same four products. Every price on this page is in New Zealand dollars and excludes GST, and we quote Australian clients the same way.
The New Zealand dollar is worth less than the Australian dollar, so the same figure usually costs you less in AUD. Australia’s east coast is 2 to 3 hours behind Auckland, so calls fit easily into a working day.
What if we need another revision round?
We tell you what it costs before we start it, and you decide. Your proposal states how many rounds are included at each stage, so you always know where you stand.
Do you price differently for agencies?
We quote agency work per agency. You brief us on the same four products, the work carries your branding, and we don’t appear in front of your client.
We don’t go direct to your client, and we’ll put that in a signed agreement.
